An eye-mountable device including a lens operable to be removably mounted on a corneal surface of an eye and to be compatible with a motion of an eyelid a photosensor coupled to the lens, the photosensor including a light detecting surface oriented to detect light from an iris of the eye and an accommodation actuator coupled to the lens and operable to modify an optical power of the lens in response to light detected by the photosensor. A method including monitoring a signal from a photosensor coupled to a contact lens, the signal representative of light reflected from an iris of an eye on which the contact lens is mounted detecting a change in a gazing direction of the eye based on the signal and modifying an optical power of the contact lens in response to the detect change in gazing direction.
