To prevent a frontal chest image from being in the direction opposite to that of a reference image when it is read.
SOLUTION: Structures in the chest of a human body are recognized from the frontal chest image to be processed (step S12). The feature amount of the frontal chest image is extracted ON the basis of the arrangement of the structures (step S13). The degree of conviction in which the frontal chest image is in the direction opposite to that of the reference image during reading is calculated ON the basis of the extracted feature amount (step S14). When the degree of conviction is 70% or more (step S15 YES), warning is indicated by red color (step S16). When the degree of conviction is &ge 35% and < 70% (step S15 NO and step S17 YES), warning is indicated by yellow color (step S18).
