The use of pharmaceutical compositions containing diazoxide (I) (i.e. 7-chloro-3-methyl-2H-1,2,4-benzothiadiazine-1,1-dioxide) is claimed in the production of medicaments for the treatment and/or prevention of diseases associated with retinal ischemia. ACTIVITY : Ophthalmological； vasotropic； antidiabetic. In tests in rats with retinal ischemia, local administration of 10 Microl of 0.01% solution of (I) to the conjunctival sac 30 minutes after the start of reperfusion and every day for 4 days caused almost complete recovery of electrical activity in the retina after 3 days (A and B wave amplitudes 97.01% and 96.36% respectively of the initial values). In controls without the treatment with (I), the A and B wave amplitudes were 40.55% and 31.88% respectively of the initial values 7 days after the start of reperfusion. La composition utilisée dans le cadre de la présente invention peut en outre contenir du riluzole, du riluzole ou un dérivé actif en neuroprotection de celui-ci ou un sel pharmaceutiquement acceptable de celui-ci.
