The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing an Acanthopanax senticosus extract and a functional food composition containing the Acanthopanax senticosus extract manufactured thereby. The Acanthopanax senticosus extract manufactured by the method of the present invention contains high concentrations of eleutheroside compounds, an active ingredient having antioxidative activity and effective in overcoming fatigue and increasing the capacity for locomotion, reduces levels of creatine kinase, LDH, and uric acid related to a fatigue degree, and having no toxicity, thereby being able to be used as a functional food having antioxidative activity and effective in overcoming fatigue and increasing the capacity for locomotion.본 발명은 가시오가피 추출물의 제조방법 및 이로부터 제조된 가시오가피 추출물을 함유하는 기능성 식품 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 방법에 따라 제조된 가시오가피 추출물은 항산화, 피로회복 및 운동능력 향상 효과를 나타내는 유효성분인 엘레우테로사이드 화합물을 높은 농도로 함유하고 있으며, 피로도와 관련된 체내 크레아틴 키나아제(creatine kinase), LDH 및 요산(uric acid) 수치를 감소시키면서도 세포독성을 나타내지 않기 때문에, 항산화, 피로회복 및 운동능력 향상 효과를 나타내는 기능성 식품으로 이용될 수 있다.
