The present invention refers to a process for the manufacture of films from citrus, the films and the use thereof as a biodegradable packaging and vehicle of active compounds. The main advantage of the process is the use of wastes from the citrus industry as raw material, it being easy and does not requiring the addition of pectin or significant amounts of further additives. The films obtained from the process of the present invention are flexible, transparent, biodegradable, edible, water vapour- and gas-resistant, printable, heat sealable, water soluble, functional, adhesive, in such a manner that may be used as a packaging and/or wrap for containing and preserving food and as a vehicle of active agents for pharmaceutical and/or food industry uses.La presente invención hace referencia a un proceso para la elaboración de películas a partir de cítricos, las películas y su uso potencial como empaques biodegradables y vehículo de compuestos activos. El proceso tiene como principales ventajas la utilización de residuos de la industria citrícola como materia prima, es sencillo y no requiere la adición de pectina ni cantidades significativas de otros aditivos. Las películas obtenidas con el proceso al que se refiere la presente invención son flexibles, transparentes, biodegradables, comestibles, permeables al vapor de agua y a los gases, imprimibles, termosellables, solubles en agua, funcionales, adherentes de tal manera que pueden utilizarse como empaques y/o envolturas para contener y conservar alimentos y como vehículo de agentes activos para usos en la industria farmacéutica y/o de alimentos.
