The motor-operated pruning saw is set up from the ground and actuated such that there is no need to work from ladders. For carrying out the sawing operation, the saw is arranged such that it can pivot about a retaining device - saw unit in the following. The saw unit and the telescopic extensions necessary for reaching the cutting height are raised vertically by hand and, by means of the retaining device, suspended on desired branches of the tree which is to be cut back. If the branch to be cut can be reached, the telescopic extension is connected to the telescope. The saw unit is then aligned into the cutting position and the branch to be cut off is braced, by means of the winch of the telescope, directly beside the cutting point, between the steady of the retaining device and the ground. The saw cut can thus take place in a controlled manner against this steady. Pivoting of the saw for the cutting procedure by means of a cable pull and the switching of the saw take place from the telescope. The saw unit may also be tilted, with the result that oblique cuts, e.g. for cutting back trees, may also be carried out.
