A new metallo-²-lactamase inhibitor which acts as a medicament for inhibiting the inactivation of ²-lactam antibiotics and recovering anti-bacterial activities is disclosed. The maleic acid derivatives having the general formula (I) have metallo-²-lactamase inhibiting activities. It is possible to recover the anti-bacterial activities of ²-lactam antibiotics against metallo-²-lactamase producing bacteria by combining the compound of the general formula (I) with ²-lactam antibiotics.β-락탐계 항생물질을 불활성화시키고, β-락탐계 항생물질에 대한 항균 활성을 회복시킬 수 있는 메탈로-β-락타마제 저해제를 개시한다. 일반식 (I)의 구조를 가지는 말레인산 유도체는 메탈로-β-락타마제에 대한 저해 활성을 가진다. 이 일반식 (I)의 화합물을 β-락탐계 항생물질과 병용함으로써, 메탈로-β-락타마제 생산균에 대한 β-락탐계 항생물질의 항균활성을 회복시킬 수 있다.
