A tool for freeing and retrieving stuck fishing hooks (12) is connected to a fishing line (13) via a swivel (14) with a corresponding gripping head (14a). The tool comprises a sinker (16) with a pulling line (18) and is secured slidingly to the fishing line (13). The tool (15) has an axially running, central guiding hole with a sideways directed slit (24) for threading the tool sideways onto the fishing line, and a blocking device for blocking the fishing line inside the tool in the length direction of the tool. The tool (15) is equipped with a pair of barbed, snap-forming gripping devices (25) with corresponding liberating devices.
