PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide and endoscope system capable of appropriately controlling a light quantity of illumination light in a broad dynamic range according to a type of an imaging device mounted on an endoscope.SOLUTION: The endoscope system comprises: an endoscope 11 having an illumination optical system for illuminating light from a light source 43a to a subject, and an imaging optical system including an imaging device 11b for imaging the subject and a control device to which the endoscope 11 is removably connected. The endoscope system further includes: a light source control unit that controls exit light intensity of the light source 43a according to a light quantity instruction value input from the control device 13 and a type identification unit that identifies a type of the imaging device 11b mounted on the endoscope 11 connected to the control device.
