PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide and endoscope system capable of appropriately controlling a light quantity of illumination light in a broad dynamic range according to a type of an imaging device mounted on an endoscope.SOLUTION: The endoscope system comprises: an endoscope 11 having an illumination optical system for illuminating light from a light source 43a to a subject, and an imaging optical system including an imaging device 11b for imaging the subject and a control device to which the endoscope 11 is removably connected. The endoscope system further includes: a light source control unit that controls exit light intensity of the light source 43a according to a light quantity instruction value input from the control device 13 and a type identification unit that identifies a type of the imaging device 11b mounted on the endoscope 11 connected to the control device. The light source control unit has a plurality of control patterns representing a relationship between the light quantity instruction value and a control output value to the light source 43a, switches to any one of the control patterns according to the identification result of the type identification means, and controls the exit light intensity according to the switched control pattern.
