An apparatus for disinfecting objects of various shapes and sizes is provided. The apparatus includes a housing surrounding a disinfection chamber in which an object is placed. An ultraviolet light source is disposed that emits ultraviolet light applied to the object in the disinfection chamber to deactivate at least some of the biologically active contaminants present on the object. The disinfection chamber includes a liner that includes a reflective element so that ultraviolet light is reflected around the chamber and is maximally incident on the object. The disinfection chamber also includes a wall formed therein of a material that is at least partially substantially transparent to ultraviolet light. The floor of the disinfection chamber rotates during the disinfection procedure.
