The apparatus includes a hopper containing the granular food, the hopper having an outlet proximal to the bottom end thereof, and a dispensing rotor mounted in the hopper, the hopper containing the granular food. A dispensing rotor rotatable to push through the outlet and a signal indicative of the desired amount of the granular food and a desired amount of the food through the outlet by rotating the rotor a specific amount. A control subsystem operable to dispense and a chute disposed under the outlet for directing dispensed food into the receptacle.
