The present invention relates to a 2-alkoxy benzene formyl arylamine compound represented by the formula (I) wherein R, G, X, Y and Z are in accordance with the detailed description of the invention. The above-mentioned compounds can inhibit the activity of sphingomyelin synthase (SMS) and can be used for the treatment of diseases due to an increase in sphingomyelin level or more. The present invention also encompasses the use of a compound represented by the formula (I), a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof or a pharmaceutical composition comprising the compound as an active active ingredient in a medicament for the prevention and treatment of diseases due to an increase in sphingomyelin level or higher.
