A method is provided of selecting specific probiotic lactic acid bacteria producing histamine and the use of such strains for beneficial effects for mammals. The method includes selecting a lactic acid bacterial strain for use in the local production of histamine in a mammal, and further comprises screening bacteria for the presence of an active histidine operon and selecting a strain which has an active histidine operon and is capable of producing histamine. Preferably said strain is selected for its ability to produce histamine at a level of greater than 250 pg/ml. The present invention further provides products comprising the strains obtainable by the selection methods of the invention for use in the local production of histamine in a mammal, in particular for use in the treatment or prophylaxis of inflammatory conditions.히스타민을 생산하는 특이적인 프로바이오틱 젖산 박테리아의 선별하는 방법 및 포유류에게 이로운 효과를 위한 이러한 균주의 용도가 제공된다. 특히 본 발명은 포유류내 히스타민의 국부적 생산에서의 용도를 위한 젖산 박테리아 균주를 선별하는 방법과 관련되며, 여기서 상기 방법은 활성 히스티딘 오페론의 존재를 위해 박테리아를 스크리닝하는 단계 및 활성 히스티딘 오페론을 갖고 그리고 히스타민을 생산할 수 있는 균주를 선별하는 단계를 포함한다. 바람직하게 상기 균주는 250 pg/ml보다 큰 수준에서 히스타민을 생산하는 이의 능력에 대해 선별된다. 추가로 본 발명은 포유류내 히스타민의 국부적인 생산에서의 용도를 위해, 특히 염증 질환의 치료 또는 예방에서의 용도를 위해 본 발명의 선별 방법으로 얻을 수 있는 균주를 포함하는 산물을 제공한다.
