These are auxiliary compound material and methods of using an auxiliary compound material to reinforce a line of staples. In general, the auxiliary compound material may be used to maintain a seal in the fabric and to prevent tearing of the stapled fabric. This auxiliary compound material may be coupled to a surgical stapler claw and may be implanted into the tissue together with the staples. In some embodiments, the auxiliary compound material may be sized and shaped so that a portion of the material extends laterally out of the staple line and distributes stress to the fabric outside the staple line.
