The present invention relates to a method of joining two panels (1, 2) of an airframe or fuselage structure (F) of an aircraft (A) or spacecraft, comprising the steps: preparing an edge region of a first panel (1) to form a first joining surface (3); preparing an edge region of a second panel (2) to form a second joining surface (4); aligning the first and second panels (1, 2) with one another such that the first and second joining surfaces (3, 4) abut or interface with one another to form a joint area (5); and joining the first and second panels (1, 2) at the joining surfaces (3, 4) in the joint area (5). In an embodiment, the preparing steps include machining, and especially cutting, the edge regions of the first and second panels (1, 2) in a single operation to form the first and second joining surfaces (3, 4) substantially simultaneously.
