PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus which reduces both noises due to vibration of a gradient magnetic field coil and due to a magnetic field leaked from the gradient magnetic field coil.
SOLUTION: The magnetic resonance imaging apparatus includes a static magnetic field coil 1 forming a uniform static magnetic field in the direction z of a central axis within an imaging space 4 and the gradient magnetic field coil 2 forming a gradient magnetic field whose magnetic field component in the direction z of the central axis being inclined in the diameter direction y within the imaging space 4. The gradient magnetic field coil 2 has a main coil 6 for forming a gradient magnetic field and a shield coil 7 for suppressing leakage of a magnetic field. The shield coil 7 has a main shield coil 9 having uneven winding density in the direction z of the central axis C0 for weakening electromagnetic force from the static magnetic field, and a sub-shield coil 8 having a coil pattern overlapping the coil pattern of the main shield coil 9 and having the center 8a whose position shifts in the direction z of the central axis from the position of the center 9a of the main shield coil 9.
