PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform the observation support, operation support and setting support in a case of displaying a real-time tomographic image using a 3D probe.SOLUTION: A transmission/reception control unit 42 controls the electronic scan of an ultrasonic beam in accordance with a composite scan sequence corresponding to a selected support mode. The composite scan sequence includes a plurality of basic scans executed intermittently on a temporal axis and a plurality of auxiliary scans executed intermittently between the basic scans. A tomographic image formation unit 20 forms a real-time tomographic image on the basis of a plurality of pieces of cross-sectional data sequentially acquired by the plurality of basic scans.
