In diagnosing fatty liver using an ultrasound image, provided are an ultrasound image apparatus and a control method thereof to enhance reproducibility and accuracy of diagnosis by automatically setting an interest region of a liver appeared on an ultrasound image and an interest region of an organ serving as a comparison reference with a liver and automatically calculating a diagnosis parameter for each interest region set automatically to be provided to a user. According to an embodiment, the ultrasound image apparatus includes: an image processing unit which generates the ultrasound image by using an ultrasound echo signal； a display unit； and a main control unit which detects liver and kidney regions from the ultrasound image, extracts a boundary line between the liver and kidney regions, sets liver and kidney interest regions automatically based on the boundary line, obtains diagnosis parameters for the liver and kidney interest regions, and controls the display unit to display information of the diagnosis parameters for the liver and kidney interest regions.초음파 영상을 이용하여 지방간을 진단함에 있어서, 초음파 영상에 나타난 간의 관심 영역과 간과 비교 대상이 되는 장기의 관심 영역을 자동으로 설정하고, 자동으로 설정된 각각의 관심 영역에 대한 진단 파라미터를 자동으로 계산하여 사용자에게 제공함으로써 진단의 재현성과 정확도를 향상시킬 수 있는 초음파 영상 장치 및 그 제어 방법을 제공한다.일 실시예에 따른 초음파 영상 장치는, 초음파 에코 신호를 이용하여 초음파 영상을 생성하는 영상 처리부； 디스플레이부； 상기 초음파 영상에서 간(Liver) 영역 및 신장(Kidney) 영역을 검출하고, 상기 간 영역 및 상기 신장 영역 사이의 경계선을 추출하고, 상기 경계선을 기준으로 간 관심 영역 및 신장 관심 영역을 자동으로 설정하고, 상기 간 관심 영역에 대한 진단 파라미터 및 상기 신장 관심 영역에 대한 진단 파라미터를 획득하고, 상기 디스플레이부를 제어하여 상기 간 관심 영역에 대한 진단 파라미터 및 상기 신장 관심 영역에 대한 진단 파라미터에 관한 정보를 표시하는 메인 제어부；를 포함한다.
