A support assembly for supporting a physical product (eg, a membrane) in an operating position, a membrane product package including the support assembly, a method for manufacturing the membrane product package, a method for applying the membrane, and a kit for repairing a tissue defect. The support assembly has a base and a cover. A base membrane receptacle defines a plurality of perforations extending between the top and bottom surfaces of the product receptacle. The cover is releasably coupled to the base at a product covering position where the cover overlaps the product receiving portion of the base. The biological product engages the top surface of the product receptacle and the bottom surface of the cover in the operating position.
