The vehicle has a trace sensor detecting a deviation between a path to be traced by a vehicle, and an actual traced path. An automatic steering device (4) is adjusted to update a drive angle of a steerable axle (1, 2) during the deviation. The device has an input for a signal which represents inclination of a subsurface transverse to the traced path. The device is adjusted by considering the inclination during angle updation. An independent claim is also included for a method for steering a land vehicle.
