An artificial tooth which is suitable as a caries model. The tooth comprises bonded artificial enamel and artificial dentin, which both comprise calcium phosphate, preferably, pressed calcium phosphate, and are similar in their characteristics to natural human enamel and dentin, respectively. The calcium phosphate preferably is hydroxyapatite. The artificial enamel is preferably sintered after pressing. The invention also relates to use of said artificial tooth for inducing a caries lesion or for experimental prevention and/or treatment of a caries lesion, e.g., by remineralisation. The tooth may also be used for treatment or prevention of a tooth disease such as a caries lesion, preferably by drilling, remineralisation, varnishing and/or filling a lesion. This can be done, e.g., for practice, educational or scientific purposes. Methods of generating, preventing and/or treating a caries lesion in the artificial tooth are also subject matter of the invention.
