A method for determining the force applied to a tip of a medical instrument includes receiving inputs from a medical instrument having at least one elongated actuation element used to manipulate a position of the instrument while in a patient's body. The method also includes applying the inputs to a lumped model of the instrument and determining a force on a tip of the instrument based on both the inputs and the lumped model.La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant de déterminer la force étant placée sur l'embout d'un instrument médical qui consiste à recevoir des entrées en provenance d'un instrument médical ayant au moins un fil de traction utilisé pour manipuler une position de l'instrument tandis que ce dernier est dans le corps d'un patient. Le procédé consiste également à appliquer les entrées à un modèle localisé de l'instrument et à déterminer une force sur un embout de l'instrument basé, à la fois, sur les entrées et sur le modèle localisé.
