A product distribution apparatus (10) and a method of controlling of a product distribution apparatus (10) is described. The apparatus (10) uses map (60) based information to disengage the control for a dynamic down force (FD) for certain designated areas (64, 66) of the field. These areas (64, 66) can be roadways or waterways that are not planted with seed but through which the apparatus (10) does operate. A control system disengages the dynamic control of the down force (FD) when the designated areas (66) are reached and leaves the down force (FD) applied by an actuator (40) at the magnitude immediately prior to entering the area (66) or at some other desired level. This magnitude of down force (FD) will typically be much closer to the magnitude needed when the roadway, waterway or other designated area (66) has been crossed.
