Antimicrobial agent, useful to treat respiratory tract related microorganisms or infectious diseases in nose-, throat- or paranasal sinuses, comprises plant drug or ethanolic/aqueous extracts (e.g. Rumex acetosa L)
Antimicrobial agent (I) comprising at least one plant drug or at least an ethanolic/aqueous extracts, where the plants are Rumex acetosa L., Rumex acetosella L., Rumex obtusifolius L., Rumex patientia L., Rumex crispus L., Rumicis herba, Verbena officinalis, Sambucus nigra and/or Primula veris, is new. An independent claim is also included for a kit comprising (I) in liquid or lyophilized form and at least one salt form for the preparation of nose rinsing solution. - ACTIVITY : Respiratory-Gen.; Antibacterial; Virucide; Antiinflammatory. The effectiveness of (I) was tested against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 12600). The results showed that median lethal dosage (LD50) value of (I) was 0.78 %, by volume. - MECHANISM OF ACTION : None given.
