PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent resin particle which contains a plant-derived raw material and is excellent in absorption performance, and to provide a method of producing the absorbent resin particle.
SOLUTION: The method for producing the absorbent resin particles includes: a step (1) of obtaining the cross-linked polymer (A) by copolymerizing monomers containing a water-soluble vinyl monomer (a1) and/or a hydrolyzable vinyl monomer (a2) and a cross-linking agent (a3) as essential constituent monomers (a), and then obtaining a cross-linked polymer/cellulose composite gel (A/B) by mixing the cross-linked polymer(A) with a mercerized cellulose (C), or a step (2) of mixing the monomers containing the water-soluble vinyl monomer (a1) and/or the hydrolyzable vinyl monomer (a2) and the cross-linking agent (a3) as the essential constitutent monomers (a) with the mercerized cellulose (C) and after that, copolymerizing the mixture to obtain the cross-linked polymer/cellulose composite gel (A/B) and a step (3) of post-processing the cross-linked polymer/cellulose composite gel (A/B) to obtain the absorbent resin particle.
