Kinetic stabilization of the native state of transthyretin is an effectivemechanism for preventing protein misfolding. Because transthyretin misfoldingplays an important role in transthyretin amyloid diseases, inhibiting suchmisfolding can be used as an effective treatment or prophylaxis for suchdiseases. Treatment methods, screening methods, as well as specifictransthyretin stabilizing compounds are disclosed.
