PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preadipocyte differentiation inhibitor using a compound belonging to safe and effective carotenoids as active principle, and to provide pharmaceutical compositions and cosmetic compositions exhibiting the action to inhibit the differentiation of preadipocytes to adipocytes.SOLUTION: It is found that siphonaxanthin has inhibitory effect on the differentiation of preadipocytes to adipocytes.
