The present invention provides a method and an apparatus to cultivate plants by using roots of a medicinal plant such as licorice, capable of increasing a product value of roots and improving the efficiency of production. Provided is a cultivating apparatus comprising a plurality of cultivation tubs (1) storing soil and a supply pipe (2) supplying a nutrient solution. The cultivation tubs (1) include: a body part (11) in which a ridge-shaped part (11A) bulging inwards to be vertically extended or a line (11C) of oval bulging parts upwardly lengthened is arranged along the edge； and a cylindrical upper part (12) including two pairs of distribution holes (12A). The upper part of the body part (11) is filled with soil (16), and an upper air gap part (15) is left in the upper part (12). A supply tube (2), of which diameter is smaller than each of the distribution holes (12A), is inserted into the distribution holes (12A), and then, a nutrient solution from a supply hole (21) of the supply tube (2) is stored in each of the cultivation tubs (1).
