The present invention relates to methods for reducing body perspiration and/or for reducing the body odor resulting from perspiration. According to these methods, an antiperspirant cosmetic agent (M1) which comprises a phosphonate compound with amine and/or hydroxyl groups is applied to the human skin and remains in the application location for at least 1 hour. The use of the at least one phosphonate compound with amine and/or hydroxyl groups in these methods results in an antiperspirant effect or in the reduction of the body odor resulting from perspiration.
