Disclosed is a spray-pumpable topical composition comprising 0.01-0.5 weight percent unbound hydrophilic silicon dioxide particles (e.g. colloidal silica such as Cab-o-sil, Aerosil 200 etc.) an emulsifier at least one active ingredient selected from zinc oxide titanium dioxide, a steroid hormone, an antimicrobial agent, an antibacterial agent, an antifungal agent, an antibiotic or any combination thereof and one or more additives, and wherein the composition is an emulsion. Also disclosed is a method for the preparation of a spray-pumpable topical composition, comprising the steps of a) preparing a lipophilic phase comprising at least one active ingredient selected from zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, a steroid hormone, an anti-microbial agent, an antibacterial agent, an antifungal agent, an antibiotic or any combination thereof and optional additives b) preparing an aqueous phase comprising 0.01-0.5 weight percent hydrophilic silicon dioxide (Aerosil 200) and optional additives, wherein the hydrophilic silicon dioxide is present as unbound hydrophilic silicon dioxide particles, and the lipophilic and/or hydrophilic phase comprises an emulsifier and, c) mixing the lipophilic phase of step a) with the aqueous phase of step b) to obtain the spray-pumpable topical composition. Further disclosed is the use of 0.01&ndash0.5 weight percent unbound hydrophilic silicon dioxide particles (Aerosil 200) in the preparation of a spray-pumpable topical suspension in an emulsion comprising 0.01-0.5 weight percent unbound hydrophilic silicon dioxide particles.
