An image processing apparatus, which may be used in analyzing optical coherence tomography scans, comprises means for acquiring S4 a plurality of tomographic images, such as OCT B-scans, acquired at different positions of an object to be inspected, which may be the fundus of an eye, and forming S11, based on the group of tomographic images, a formed image which is arranged so as to intersect at least one of the tomographic images. A map of the layer thickness in the region of a sector of a predetermined layer of the object is displayed. A designated S9 centre position of the formed image is aligned with a centre of the sector and the thickness map is recalculated according to the alignment of the centre of the sector. A user may select the position of a main scanning line and a sub scanning line on a planar view (3101 figure 5) of the object to be inspected and their position may be displayed and the formed image may be a cross section along one of these lines.
