Certain aspects relate to systems and techniques for tracking navigation paths. In one aspect, the system displays a preoperative model of the lumen network. The system determines the location of the device within the lumen network for the pre-operative model. Based on the location of the device relative to the pre-operative model, the system determines whether to enter path tracking mode. In the route tracking mode, the system displays a visual indicator indicating the device's route to the displayed pre-operative model.
