The invention relates to a powder material intake device (1) for taking powder material into liquid comprising an inlet (2), an outlet (3), a powder material intake passage (4) from the inlet (2) to the outlet (3), a first valve (20), and a gaseous medium intake device (30) with an outlet (34) for taking gaseous medium into the powder intake passage (4), the outlet (34) being located in the passage (4) downstream from the first valve (20). The invention also relates to a method for taking powder material into liquid, comprising the following steps: (a) applying a vacuum or low pressure to the liquid, (b) passing powder material into the liquid through a powder material intake passage (4), (c) providing a first valve (20) in the powder material intake passage (4) for closing and opening the powder material intake passage (4), and (d) supplying a pressurized gaseous medium (50) into the powder material intake passage (4) downstream the first valve (20) at least partially during closing and/or opening the first valve (20).
