A method and system for evaluating alarm events generated in a physiological monitoring system are described. The method identifies one or more qualitative measures associated with the generation of an alarm event. The one or more qualitative magnitudes may comprise a calculated locus of monitored physiological parameters, a calculated time between alarm events, and a duration of the current alarm event. Based on qualitative size, the method calculates a clinical relevancy score for an alarm event. An alarm event, a respective qualitative size, and a clinical fitness score are provided on the display panel. The method and system may generate an emergency alarm based on the calculated relevance score.
