Provided in the present invention are a method and device based on the non-response of a touch screen. The method is applicable to a terminal device operable via a touch screen. The method comprises: detecting, by a terminal device, whether a current touch screen is responsive; if the touch screen is not responsive, activating, by the terminal device, a first preset operating method, so as to enable the terminal device to perform corresponding functions according to the first preset operating method. The invention can still perform basic operations on the terminal device when the touch screen is not responsive, enabling the terminal device to complete corresponding operation instructions, and thus avoiding unnecessary inconvenience brought to a user when the touch screen does not respond.
