PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent article capable of ensuring not only the proper rigidity of a waist part but also the good appearance of waist gathers.
SOLUTION: The absorbent article is provided with an absorbent main body 3 and an outer packaging material 2 and constituted so that the outer packaging material 2 is divided into an abdominal part A, a crotch part C and a back part B and provided with an outer layer sheet 21, an inner layer sheet 22 and elastic members 23-26 wherein girth gathers formed of a composite expansion and contraction part are provided to the girth part D of the outer packaging material 2 the composite expansion and contraction part is constituted so that the sheets 21 and 22 are mutually joined in the expansion and contraction direction of the composite expansion and contraction part and the direction of crossing the same at a right angle by intermittent joint parts the elastic member 23 is arranged so as not to pass through the joint parts the sheets 21 and 22 are not fixed at the parts excepting both end parts of the elastic member 23 and a large number of pleats continuously extending over the elastic member 23 are formed by the sheets 21 and 22. Waist gathers are provided to the waist part F of the outer packaging material 2 and formed by fixing the sheets 21 and 22 by the elastic member 24.
