PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a peony (Paeonia lactiflora Pallas) excellent strain that shows high proliferation efficiency and satisfactory growth in plant tissue culture, and a root which satisfies the component standard of Pharmacopoeia of Japan can be obtained by water cultivation for one year, a proliferation method of such a peony strain, and furthermore, a cultivation method of a peony strain.SOLUTION: Tissue culture is performed to a peony PLKD2 strain, and the strain is proliferated at the temperature of 13 to 17°C, the light period of 12 to 18 hours, and the illuminance of 3,000 to 7,000 lux.
