1312624 Hand shears SPEAR & JACKSON (TOOLS) Ltd 30 July 1970 [30 April 1969] 21945/69 Heading B4B A pair of garden shears comprises a pair of blades 10, 12 which are ground flat and have their rear ends set apart by a separating member 46, 48 which, in co-operation with a pivotal connection 14, 24, 26, ensures that the cutting edges of the blades are forced into point contact during a cutting movement of the blades. The pivotal connection is in the form of a screw 20, nut 24 and lock washer 26. The separating member is in the form of a screw 46 having a rounded hardened end 48. The screw may be replaced by a wedge which can be adjusted so as to increase or decrease the pressure on the blades, or, alternatively, by a ball or roller bearing. The handles 40 may be made from wood or synthetic plastics material.
