PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method that can be used to predict or assess the sensitivity of tumors to chemotherapeutic agents.SOLUTION: The invention relates to methods of determining an appropriate cancer therapy for a subject based on intratumoral expression levels of a gene, such as the RRM1 or ERCC1 gene. In one embodiment, the invention features a method for assessing an appropriate chemotherapy for a subject. The method includes providing a tumor sample from the subject, determining the RRM1 expression level in the tumor sample, and determining an appropriate chemotherapy based on the RRM1 expression level.
