A method and an apparatus for generating a reference image for determining a scan range of pre-operative images are provided to reduce the exposure of the patient or the subject to the X-ray, to provide a variety of information to the user in an intuitive way, and to determine the scan range of a pre-operative image of the patient or the subject. The method for generating a reference image according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of: receiving a first medical image of a subject, taken in a first posture； determining a second posture, which is the posture of the subject during an operation of the subject, from the first medical image received； and creating a reference image for determining the scan range of an image that will be shot in the second posture, which is determined before the operation, by using the first medical image.시술 전 영상의 촬영 범위를 결정하기 위한 레퍼런스 영상 생성 방법 및 그 장치가 개시된다. 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 레퍼런스 영상 생성 방법은 피검자의 제1 자세에서 촬영된 제1 의료 영상을 수신하는 단계； 상기 수신된 상기 제1 의료 영상으로부터 상기 피검자의 시술 시 자세인 제2 자세를 결정하는 단계； 및 시술 전 상기 결정된 상기 제2 자세로 촬영될 영상의 촬영 범위를 결정하기 위한 레퍼런스 영상을 상기 제1 의료 영상을 이용하여 생성하는 단계를 포함한다.
