PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an artificial bone material superior in performance of forming a bone tissue component, and a method for manufacturing the artificial bone material.SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the artificial bone material includes applying hydrothermal treatment of heating a metal base material containing titanium while pressurizing it in the presence of a calcium-containing compound, alkali metal carbonate and water, thereby allowing the metal base material containing titanium, to carry calcium titanate and calcium carbonate. The metal base material containing titanium carries calcium titanate and calcium carbonate to form the artificial bone material.
