An object of the present invention is to provide an oil-in-water emulsified sunscreen cosmetic that maintains a high UV protection effect even when it comes into contact with water or sweat after application, and is excellent in use feeling. The present invention comprises (A) an ultraviolet protective agent and (B) a solid fatty acid at room temperature, wherein the fatty acid has a neutralization rate of 51% or less, and (A) the ultraviolet protective agent and (B) the fatty acid. The ratio ((A) / (B)) is in the range of 0.1 or more and less than 10.0. The cosmetic exhibits an unprecedented characteristic that the UV protection ability is improved by contact with water. The cosmetic preferably contains (C) an oil component having an IOB of 0.5 or more.本発明は、塗布後水や汗と接触した場合であっても高い紫外線防御効果を維持し、使用感触に優れる水中油型乳化日焼け止め化粧料を提供することを目的とする。本発明は、（Ａ）紫外線防御剤と、（Ｂ）常温で固形の脂肪酸とを含有し、前記脂肪酸の中和率が５１％以下であって、（Ａ）紫外線防御剤と（Ｂ）脂肪酸との配合量比率（（Ａ）/（Ｂ））が０．１以上１０．０未満の範囲内であることを特徴とする水中油型乳化日焼け止め化粧料に関する。前記化粧料は、水と接触することにより紫外線防御能が向上するという従来にない特性を発揮する。当該化粧料は、（Ｃ）ＩＯＢが０．５以上の油分を更に含有するのが好ましい。
