For the gassing of low-level stores or bulk stores for cereals with toxic gassing agents, the procedure has hitherto been that these gassing agents were applied to the prepared stores and the sealing-off of the store took place subsequently, with generation of the gassing gas aready commencing. In this working technique, as a rule, gas concentrations which are above the MAK value and can thus lead to health risks are obtained in the air space above the storage material. Furthermore, in this method, the necessary quantity of gassing agent is increased. In the process according to the invention, first a sealing-off/covering of the cereal store with gas-tight tarpaulins is produced, and subsequently the gassing agent is introduced into the cereal through orifices made or opened at a later stage. The orifices are closed again immediately. The gassing agent is thereby utilised as efficiently as possible and the danger of the escape of the gassing agent and risk to the work personnel are reduced considerably.
