Provided are compositions and methods for treating Leber Congenital Amaurosis (LCA) in a subject. In one aspect, there is provided a recombinant adeno-associated viral vector comprising a nucleic acid molecule comprising a sequence encoding reversillin. In another aspect, reversillin has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1. In yet another aspect, the nucleic acid molecule has the sequence of SEQ ID NO: 3, or variants thereof. In a desired embodiment, the subject is a human, cat, dog, sheep or non-human primate.
