During the preparation of bread rolls, portions of dough are positioned in forms(45) on a moving endless belt(2). The dough is are subjected to the vertical descending action of a two-part(4,15) form tool. The first tool(4) spreads the dough flat, while the second tool(15) imparts a traditional shape. The forms are fixed within holders(26,27,28,30,40) and have guides(33,44,46) through which forms may be inserted and removed.
