The reaction is at P:K mole ratio 1-1.25, esp. 1-1.1:1. Product may be recovered as a glassy solid contng. 1.5% Cl and 15% P2O5 (free acid content); or it may be hydrolysed by heating with water to give a crystalline hydrolysis product which is esp. suitable for use in liquid fertiliser compsns. The hydrolysis is at 100-120, esp. 110 degrees C., and KCl/H3PO4 reaction is at 150-250 degrees, esp. 220-250 degrees C. Process suppresses formation of insol. metaphosphate.
