The present invention relates, in one aspect, to the use of apolypeptide for decreasing the blood levels of phosphate, calcium, and/orla,25-dihydroxyvitamin D in a subject. The polypeptide may consist of theaminoacid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO: 4. The polypeptide represented bySEQ ID NO: 4 may be modified by at least one of polyethylene glycol, dextran,poly(N-vinyl-pyrrolidone), polypropylene glycol homopolymer, copolymer ofpolypropylene oxide and polyethylene oxide, polyoxyethylated polyol andpolyvinylalcohol. In another aspect, the invention relates to a neutralizing antibodythatspecifically binds to a polypeptide consisting of the amino acid sequencerepresented by SEQ ID NO: 4.
