PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely transmit the reaction force received from a subject when a curving part is bent to an operator.
SOLUTION: The endoscope apparatus includes: an endoscope body including an endoscope insertion part having the curving part on the distal end side to be inserted into the subject, a curving operation part for operating the curving part, and a curving drive part for driving the curving part according to the operation force to the curving operation part and an assisting drive means for generating the drive force to assist the curving drive by the curving drive part. In the endoscope apparatus, a curving feature TSR (&theta) defining the operation force necessary for the curving motion of the curving part for each curving angle is predetermined, and the curving amount &theta of the curving part and the operation force TH applied to the curving operation part are respectively detected. The drive force generated by the assisting drive means is changed according to the curving feature TSR, the curving amount of the curving part and the operation force applied to the curving operation part, so that the reaction force TB is intensified or reduced to be transmitted to the operator.
