PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device for an endoscope which reliably holds a light source hold part with low power consumption where design is simple and a light source is mounted.
SOLUTION: The light source device for an endoscope has: a plurality of light sources for radiating illumination light the light source hold part which holds the plurality of light sources and is freely movably supported with respect to a case a hold part for holding a light guiding part of the endoscope a drive part for moving the light source hold part with respect to the light guiding part a transmission part for transmitting drive force by the drive part and moving the light source hold part and a stop part for stopping the moved light source hold part at a position where a light axis of a light source of a prescribed light source among the plurality of light sources matches that of the light conducting part. The transmission part shields transmission of the drive force to the light source hold part when loads over a prescribed value are imposed in driving the drive part and, as long as the loads over the prescribed value are not imposed when the drive part is not driven, the position of the light source hold part is held.
